As a new district branch, MPA represents a merger of the former independent district branches of Central Missouri Psychiatric Society, Eastern Missouri Psychiatric Society, and Western Missouri Psychiatric Society. In March 2010, APA members in Missouri voted to combine operations into a single statewide organization. The former district branches will serve as MPA offices and continue to serve the local needs of their members.
Among the ways in which MPA will represent psychiatrists in the state:
- Assume a strong advocacy role with lawmakers in Jefferson City on behalf of psychiatrists, patients and the profession,
- Strengthen participation in elective processes at state and local levels through the Missouri Psychiatric Physicians Political Action Committee (MoPPPAC),
- Create an online presence with this new statewide website to replace the former EMPS site at www.emopsych.org, and
- Publish Missouri Psychiatry, a new quarterly print and online newsletter that will feature regional, state and national news of interest to psychiatrists. It replaces the former EMPS Eastern Missouri Psychiatry newsletter. Click here to view our Newsletter Archive.
